Is Twitter really journalism you may ask? In my view I believe that Twitter is a form of journalism due to the fact that a lot of people use it on a daily basis to report whats going on. Some may use it as away to report gossip news, relevant news about whats going on around the world or just share whatever may be on their mind.
To say Twitter is not journalism is false. A lot of stories on major news net works have developed due to the info that were published on twitter. For example even with the revolution that started in Egypt and now places like Sudan, Libya, and Yemen started on social net works like Twitter. With such important events developing and being shared on Twitter if people in the U.S. had to wait on CNN to go and get the story by then it would be old unless they were broadcasting live there. Therefore if it weren't for Twitter and Facebook we would be late on our news.
Another plus to Twitter is that its instant news on the go, because you are able to get the news from the people you follow as soon as they tweet it.
Yes, you maybe limited with only 140 characters, but a real journalist must never forget that they will always be limited with deadlines and limited on how much they can write. So coming up with the idea that Twitter is not a real for of journalism is an excuse.
Although Twitter comes with its limits, its still very useful along with Facebook and all the other social media tools. Twitter can be used to report news in 140 characters and if thats not enough an individual can share a link to where they can read the full story. Facebook, is definitely helpful as well because you are able to post things on your status that will update friends on whats going on. It has the same concept as Twitter but you move wiggle room to tell your story because you can post it in a note or share a link like Twitter, so that readers can read the full story.
